What are we
doing here?
We are here to grow our collective voice and perspective around urban forestry in Baltimore. “To The Jungles That Be” is an arts-based engagement initiative that aims to enhance urban forestry participation and outcomes in Baltimore by connecting people to stories in order to spark action. Together, we’re working to create a world where people see themselves in nature and where nature works with people. Scroll down to join the conversation and add your voice to the story!

I grew up in what many people call the jungle
But how so if we’ve never had trees?
I mean - Maybe the small and janky ones, limp
They can barely keep themselves alive so
How will they help us? Breathe..
TRUTHS
I grew up in
Trees in my neighborhood ARE
Those trees make me Feel
I've seen beautiful trees

The higher ups don’t care about the
wind breeze that we breathe
And the only time they fake it is when they’re getting airtime
To plant their political seeds
And say things like
I care about ALL communities
If that’s true then why does ours look this way?
I say that you all are just looking
the other way and couldn’t care less
if we could breathe
If we can make it to another day

Illustrated scene of pollution
How is nature vital to the world but we’re deprived of it?
It seems as if the smoke never clears with foggy vision polluted air
and we’re still expected to rise
Above it.
The ax forgets but the tree remembers
People have been deprived for so long,
of trees clean water and fresh air
which is not the fault of the land
but fault of man
What good is seeing a bigger picture
When the scriptures about our land were
written with ill intentions

It’s popular to say money isn’t everything but if we want real change in our communities
somebody has to open their wallet

Healthy trees air and water are conduits for us to live healthy lives
